TORRANCE, CA — November 30, 1999 — LEDtronics® announces today the LED lamp for photovoltaic renewable energy systems. SolarLED is an energy-efficient, environmentally attractive alternative to incandescent lamps in applications where sunlight is converted to electricity. SolarLED’s low power requirements (0.84 – 1.7 Watts saves 10% - 20% over an equivalent incandescent) and high-intensity light output enables the use of smaller and less expensive solar cell modules and batteries than necessitated by incandescent bulbs.

With a choice of LED cluster sizes, electrical bases, sunlight-visible colors, industry-standard voltages and with a life span measured in years not hours, SolarLED is the ideal compliment for solar photovoltaic cell setups.

SolarLED is available in 9, 12 and 24 LED clusters, 12/14 volt DC, and narrow or wide beam widths. Standard bases offered are 25mm medium screw and dual-contact 15mm bayonet. An optional low-voltage disconnect (LVD) battery protection circuit is available. SolarLED comes in red, amber, yellow, green, blue and white colored LEDs. All colors are sunlight visible. Total light output (mcd) ranges from 5,000 to 48,000 depending on LED color and cluster size. Uses for SolarLED include situations (e.g., garden pathway illumination, highway call boxes) where solar energy is a practical alternative to fossil fuels to applications without power grid access such as portable road signs, cabin task lighting and offshore oil platform marker lighting.

SolarLED is plug-compatible with major manufacturers’ solar-powered electric systems, requires no modification, and can be ordered with built-in flasher circuits. Integrating state-of-the-art LED technology and solid-state design, SolarLED is shock- and vibration-resistant making it an excellent choice for the rugged and inclement environments where solar-generated electrical energy is commonly used. SolarLED lamps operate reliably year after year. Typically, the average life span of an LED is 100,000-plus hours (11 years). That’s more than 10-20 times longer than incandescent bulbs. Additionally, SolarLED lamps are environmentally friendly because they use 80% to 90% less operating power than standard incandescent bulbs. The savings from reduced power usage, maintenance costs and less downtime more than pays for initial lamp purchase.

Founded in 1983, LEDtronics® leads where others only follow when it comes to designing, manufacturing and packaging state-of-the-art LEDs to meet the world’s constantly changing lighting needs. Our inventive product line encompasses an array of direct incandescent lamp replacement Based LEDs, low-cost snap-in and relampable Panel Mount LEDs, high intensity sunlight-visible Discrete LEDs, PCB LEDs circuit board status indicators, surface mount diodes SMT LEDs, full-spectrum rainbow RGB LEDs and Infra-Red (IR) LEDs.

Prices for SolarLED lamps range from $44.28 each - $89.70 in quantities from 1 - 99 depending on the choice of LED color and LED technology level. SolarLED carries a three-year limited warranty. Samples are available for qualified customers.
