Vincent Thomas Bridge at the Port of Los Angeles is now one of the few bridges
in the world to be illuminated by energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs),
and according to developers is the first such bridge installation to combine LEDs
with a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Each LED fixture requires only 20 watts
and has an average lifetime of over 100,000 hours. The 4.5 kilowatt solar PV system,
donated by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, offsets energy used by the
LED display.
