TORRANCE, CA — August 17, 2001 — LEDtronics® announces 12-inch (300mm) Type 1 and Type 2 TrafficLED™ direct incandescent
replacement lamps designed to accommodate pre-existing traffic signal enclosures.
Using Indium Gallium Aluminum Phosphide (InGaAlP) and Indium Gallium Nitride
(InGaN) Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, LEDtronics TrafficLEDs emit
dazzling light through an optically optimized lens that disperses light
uniformly across the entire face of the lamp. LEDtronics Type 1 and Type
2 Red and Green 12-inch LED traffic lamps meet ITE specifications and have
Caltrans approval. Type 1 lamps require modifications (i.e., hard wiring
the lamp) to retrofit existing traffic housings. Type 2 lamps feature male
25mm Edison bases that simply screw into a socket.
With power draws of just 10 Watts - 12 Watts, TrafficLEDs saves 80% - 90%
of energy costs compared to an equivalent incandescent lamp. Such enormous
energy savings alone repay the capital outlay in less than three years!
The savings don’t end with energy consumption. LED signals last much
longer than incandescent signals, reduce relamping and routine maintenance,
and lower liability costs for municipalities, cities and highway departments.
Estimated energy savings for an eight-light intersection per year is between
$500 - $550 based on $0.08 per kilowatt-hour. Multiply that figures by the
thousands of signal-controlled intersections in the average city. The results?
TrafficLED lamps save millions of dollars a year when compared to an equivalent
incandescent lamp.
Reduced maintenance outlays are important factors to consider when evaluating
the financial aspects of installing LED traffic lamps. With an average life
span of 100,000-plus hours (11 years), TrafficLEDs operate reliably year
after year. TrafficLEDs perform well in applications subjects to voltage
dips or surges. Integrated current-limited resistors and polarity-protection
diodes assure that no circuit modifications are required. With the use of
multiple LEDs, a TrafficLED lamp continues to provide light even if one
or more emitters fail unlike when the filament breaks in an incandescent
bulb.
Additionally, since LEDs emit colored light, TrafficLEDs lower concerns
surrounding broken or faded colored lenses or filters, which are necessary
with incandescent traffic bulbs. (Color produced by an LED is determined
by the composition of the semiconductor material comprising the diode chip.)
Intensity and color remain virtually stable over lamp’s lifetime.
Solid-state design renders LEDs impervious to electrical and mechanical
shock, vibration, frequent switching and environmental extremes. A molded
polycarbonate, UV-resistant lens and a rubber o-ring protect the LED plate
from environmental stresses.
Founded in 1983, LEDtronics® leads where others only follow when it comes
to designing, manufacturing and packaging state-of-the-art LEDs to meet
the world’s constantly changing lighting needs. Our inventive product
line encompasses an array of direct incandescent lamp replacement Based
LED Lamps, low-cost snap-in and relampable Panel Mount LED Lamps, high intensity
sunlight-visible Discrete LEDs, PCB LEDs circuit board status indicators,
surface mount diodes SMT LEDs, full-spectrum rainbow RGB LEDs and Infra-Red
(IR) LEDs.
Prices for TrafficLEDs range from $75.60 - $185.85 each in quantities of
250 depending on LED technology. Available are sunlight-visible Green (10,000mcd),
Yellow (7,000mcd), and Red (3,500mcd). TrafficLEDs carry a 3-year limited
warranty. Samples are available for qualified customers. For a additional
